Getting Blunt About the Bob
Michelle O. Rihanna. Keira Knightley. Katie Holmes. Victoria Beckham. Jennifer Aniston…and the list goes on. At some point, all of these ladies have fallen in love with the bob, a cut that was first made famous in the 1920s and given new life by Vidal Sassoon in the ‘60s.
According to NYC hair guru Sam Brocato, the bob will never go out of style. “We keep it fresh and new with different color and textures,” he says. “But it has to be done right!”
Here are a few tricks from Sam to ensure this classic style looks classy, every time.
Proportion is everything: height, weight, body proportions, size of forehead, length of neck and face shape; they all matter!
For petite girls, a shorter, more angular shape works best. Conversely, this approach wouldn’t cut it on someone with different proportions.
Any texture can be “bobbed;” even the finest hair. The caveat?
Ladies with fine hair should have a very blunt cut in the back.
Maintain your client’s bob by scheduling her appointments every 8-10 weeks.
“Bobs are quite low-maintenance,” Sam says. “They’re great for clients with busy lifestyles.”
